Hunts River Bridge

RIDOTSurvey.com Reconstruction Coverage

RI Bridge Plaque This Bridge was used regularly by thousands of Navy men every day during the War effort. After that I can remember when the Boston Post Rd was the way to the beach. My dad drove each Summer weekend to Point Judith and I can remember crossing this bridge hundreds of times. It's a wonderful structure, still strong and solid, and I hope to document the dismantling with enough photos to show the solid construction of something more than half a century old.
These old plaques are ceramic tiles inlaid to the concrete. They have see more cars pass by than you could imagine and have seen progress at it's best and worst. Ceramic Plaque

After almost seventy five years of use the old bridge has finally deteriorated to the point where it must be replaced. These photos show some of that wear and tear and just plain old age.

parapet rotting

This photos shows some rot on the outside of the parapet wall. Concrete, no matter the quality has a lifetime factor which varies greatly with conditions. This bridge, built in the Thirties, has lasted a good long time by any standard.
