Materials Testing
Each project must be monitored by the State inspectors to insure a quality product
and all of the concrete must be tested. This is Albert's job. As the first trucks arrive there is a lot of activity, all centered around Albert.
Jeff, Lateef, and Al (Cardi's Foreman)watch intently as Albert tests for air.
If the mix needs more chemicals we can add it right here on the job and mix it with the truck. Even so, everybody wants things to be alright on the first shot.
Lateef checks the time of the first arrival while Albert has his wheelbarrow and testing tools ready. The concrete must not stay in the trucks too long so the time is important, so is the 'slump' and 'air entratinment'. Those are the focus of Albert's testing.
These are the tools of Albert's trade.

The wheelbarrow, a shovel, and the air testing device. The container is filled with conctete and pressurized with the pump and gauge.
Also, we'll need a few test cylinders. Here Albert fills plastic cylinders with the mix. These will be sent back to the lab for analysis. They will be 'broken' by squeezing in a hydraulic machine to test the strength of the concrete.

Once Albert is satisfied we can begin placing the concrete in the
forms.
