More New Piers

Here are the two piers at their final height.
You can still see the sheeting we drove around the pier footings. We'll extract some and cut some and then backfill the footings.
Meanwhile we'll start the abutments. In the far left is the slab we've made to start the South Abutment.

The North Abutment is the last thing we have to do before we can make a new deck.
Here you can see the two Piers in the background and one of the piles we drove for the Abutment.
Notice how the pile lines right up with the piercaps. That's just how we needed it to be.
Also you can see the painted outline of the abutment wall on the North slab.
Here we're filling the North Pier front, close to the tracks. That's why we use the small machine, for track clearance. The remaining sheeting will be cut down and filled over.

In this photo (below) you see the lines for the bearing seat pads and the alignment pins
that Bobby has drilled and grouted into the piercap.
Now all that's left to do is wait.    It'll be a week or more until we can get
all the things coordinated for setting the beams.
We could check the lines and distances a few more times, but really it's too late now anyway.
I'm always nervous until that first beam sets down, flat, square and on our line.

Stay tuned for additional coverage.
